- Movement patterns and core strength.
We keep in touch with your surgeon, GP or other relevant specialist to ensure that we tailor your LIMIT classes to your needs.
What Are The Benefits Of Our LIMIT Program?
LIMIT improves your total body fitness, maintains your strength and promotes your wellbeing. It’s all about promoting your strength, fitness, balance, coordination and well-being over time. LIMIT is a pain-free training strategy that works.
Your initial consultation consists of an individualised physical assessment and specialised analysis, followed by attendance at one of our small group exercise classes. Ongoing monitoring and regular follow-up sessions allow us to prescribe customised exercises for you during the class sessions.
What is LIMIT?
Low Impact Method Interval Training (LIMIT) is a program where we address movement patterns, such as walking, lifting and pulling, as well as cardiovascular conditioning and core strength. These exercises are performed in a small group setting, so we are able to adjust the exercises to achieve your goals and accommodate your specific needs (post-surgery, back or neck pain, osteoarthritis, and so on).
What’s the LIMIT difference?
LIMIT is founded on the principle that slow and steady wins the race. You may not see big differences in the first 6 weeks, simply because of our long term approach to your heath and fitness. If you stay with the exercise program however, LIMIT will make a significant improvement in your functionality, movement and fitness levels. LIMIT is based on over 30 years of scientific research on back pain and the SMART approach to fitness.
Are the classes difficult?
If you want to feel that you have had a good workout without feeling exhausted and washed out, LIMIT is for you! Each class commences with a warm-up before staring the strength and conditioning exercises. This is a low-impact strategy, so it’s safe for people with back pain, joint problems and a variety of other health problems. You can challenge yourself however, by increasing the weights you lift or the intensity of your cardiovascular conditioning sets. You can also reduce your weights and slow down if you need to rest.
Can I join LIMIT if I’ve just had surgery?
Yes! LIMIT classes are run by our experienced physiotherapists, so we are fully aware of rehabilitation protocols. Your exercises can be adapted to allow for your surgery. We liaise with your GP, surgeon or other specialist to ensure that your exercises don’t compromise your healing but help to build strength and endurance. In fact, LIMIT is ideal for people who are recovering from surgery, because whilst training is usually prohibited, LIMIT classes are encouraged.
Will my LIMIT exercises be tailored to my needs?
Yes. Before attending our supervised group classes you will be thoroughly assessed by a physiotherapist who will select the most suitable class for you to attend, based on your health and goals. During your class (and in follow-up sessions), the physiotherapist or exercise physiologist will continue to monitor your progress and alter your exercises to match your capabilities and ensure that you’re engaging the correct muscles.
What types of LIMIT classes are available?
There are three different types of LIMIT classes: LIMIT stability, LIMIT strength and LIMIT core. Your physiotherapist will select which of these classes is most suitable for you during your training. All classes take place in a supportive environment.
LIMIT stability classes: These classes are held at lunchtime and improve your balance, strength and general health. The aim of this class is to reduce pain, increase overall fitness and improve functionality. It’s suitable for all fitness levels.
LIMIT strength classes: These classes provide a well-rounded workout with small bursts of cardio conditioning. Supervised exercises target major muscle groups and core strength. They are suitable for people who are new to fitness training, recovering from an injury or who simply want a slow paced class.
LIMIT core classes: These classes help to strengthen your core and promote cardiovascular health. With a focus on strengthening the muscles along the spine, these classes are ideal for anyone with lower back pain or ongoing injuries.
Can only people with injuries take LIMIT classes?
No. Anyone can join our LIMIT classes. Students, mums, dads, working professionals, athletes, retirees and elderly people, all attend our classes. Each class is supervised by an exercise physiologist or physiotherapist, encompassing cardiovascular endurance, strength, balance and coordination. So they are perfect for lots of people.
What’s the cost of LIMIT classes?
Each class costs $38 or you can purchase a 10-class package for $350, reducing the cost of each class to $35. If you have a private health fund, you can claim some of these costs from your provider, making it a very cost effective strategy. Our small group classes also seem more like semi-private training classes!
